Downpipes & Outlets

Clear the restriction beyond the gutter and give rainwater a route away.

PHOTOGRAPHS FROM OUR OWN WORK

A closer look at the work.

A gutter union joins gutter lengths; an outlet takes water into the downpipe. If the gutter has moved at a union, see our guide to clicking, thermal movement and leaking joints.

Plant growth at a downpipe bend warrants a closer inspection.

A clear gutter can still overflow

Debris can collect at the running outlet, inside an offset bend or further down a downpipe. Cleaning the horizontal gutter will not resolve the problem if this route remains restricted. We investigate accessible outlets and downpipes and explain any further access needed.

Clicking guttering or a joint that has moved

A gutter union connects two gutter lengths; a running outlet directs rainwater into a downpipe. Clicking as plastic guttering warms or cools can come from expansion and contraction. Where movement is unevenly restrained, a gutter length can gradually creep along its fascia brackets and pull out of a union. A leaking union needs its joint position, seals and support checked, as well as the allowance for movement.

Secure, aligned and connected

Damaged sections, loose clips, failed joints and displaced bends can all interrupt drainage. We can replace compatible outlets, bends, downpipe sections, brackets and clips, and correct alignment where appropriate. A restriction in underground drainage may require a separate drainage specialist.
